Don Jackson Sr., resident of Coweta, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2011 in Tulsa, Okla. at the age of 72, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 20, 1938 in Wirt, Okla. to his parents, William and Nancy Jackson. Don graduated from Dundee High School in McMann, Okla. After graduating high school, he then joined the United States Army, where he received the rank of Sergeant First Class. Don was also a member of the Painters & Allied Trades Union #1530. He was a master of many trades including tile and carpet layer, salesman, co-owner of D & D Signs in Coweta, and most important Master Storyteller. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He always had a story to tell and plenty of free advice. Don is survived by his first wife, Sue Jackson of Tulsa, Okla.; his three children and their spouses, Julie and Mike Landsberger of Jenks, Okla., Mark and Jennifer Jackson of Coweta, Okla. and Donnie Jackson and Christine Obrien of Coweta, Okla.; his brother, Glen and Helen Jackson of Dallas, TX; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nancy Jackson and 5 brothers and sisters. A memorial service in memory of Don will be at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 3, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, Okla. with Mark Jackson officiating and military honors provided by Danny Oliver and Bill Hamilton. Pallbearers are Jim Maness, Mike Maness, Jim Hargrove, Billy Embrey, Paul Tackett, Randy Woodward and Irene Dressel. Honorary Pallbearers are Brandon Dobbs, Alex Jackson, Andrew Jackson, Justin Jackson and Hunter Whorton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Jackson to the Coweta Community Special Athletes Fund. The donations may be made at the First National Bank of Coweta or BancFirst in Coweta. Also, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 88 in Coweta.
