Dewey E. Swarer, age 96, longtime resident of Coweta departed this life on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at SouthCrest Hospital in Tulsa. Dewey was born on December 12, 1911 in Mannford, Oklahoma to Jacob and Grace (Gill) Swarer. He and Rosie Bates were united in marriage on June 8, 1928 in Coweta, Oklahoma and she later preceded him in death. Dewey worked at the City of Coweta water plant for 11 years. He then worked as a driller in the oil field for 30 years until his retirement in 1986. Dewey's hobbies included fishing and hunting. Left behind to cherish his memories are his two sons, Jack Swarer and his wife, Velma, of Coweta, Oklahoma and Gene Swarer and his wife, Jenice, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; his daughter, Dorothy Clayton of Coweta, Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, two sons, one granddaughter, seven brothers, and four sisters. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Shahan Cemetery in Coweta with Rev. Buck Cope officiating.
