Delia Claxton

Delia Claxton, age 92, long-time resident of Coweta went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday morning, June 28, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital South in Tulsa, OK. Delia was born on October 17, 1920 in Mountain Grove, MO and was the daughter of Frank and Frances Olivia (Lewis) Sluder. In 1929, she came to the Coweta area with her parents. Delia received her education in Tulsa and Coweta Schools. Delia married Floyd Claxton on March 14, 1940 in Coweta, OK and they were married 53 years until he preceded her in death on July 23, 1993. Delia worked at Shieldnight Insurance Agency for several years. Delia was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Coweta. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and reading. Delia will be missed as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt. Delia is survived by one son, Dwight Claxton and wife, Donna, of Tulsa, OK; three daughters, Nita Chartier and husband, Jack, of Coweta, OK, Brenda Self and husband, Tom, of Tulsa, OK and Karen Stone and husband, Nick, of Wagoner, OK; one sister, Fern Clark of Coweta, OK; 16 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Delia was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Claxton, her parents, Frank and Frances Olivia Sluder and 12 brothers and sisters. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, July 2, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services for Delia are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Coweta, OK with Pastor Larry Duncan and Pastor Clive Jared officiating and Pastor D. Frank Hughes assisting. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Douglas Self, Jordan Stone, Dustin Stone, Jamie Stone, Jeff Claxton, Jeff Chartier and Josh Stone. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Claxton to the Church of God of Prophecy Youth Camp Fund, 123 W. Sycamore St., Coweta, OK 74429.
