Deetta Jean Snyder

January 28, 1939 — January 2, 2021

Broken Arrow

DeEtta Jean Snyder went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 2, 2021, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born to Benjamin and Letha (Potts) Maxwell on January 28, 1939, west of Cleveland, Oklahoma. The eighth of ten children, DeEtta enjoyed reading and sewing while growing up in the country with her parents and siblings. In 1957, she graduated from Cleveland High School and then moved to Tulsa, working as a bookkeeper for nine years.

DeEtta later attended Midwest Christian College, where she met the love of her life, Jerry Snyder, after his sister Karen encouraged her to write to him while he was stationed overseas in the Navy. She married Jerry on November 29, 1968. During their 37-year marriage, they were blessed with four children: Alan, Geoffrey, Amy, and Brian. They lived all over the United States while Jerry served his country, including being stationed in Tennessee, Maryland, Maine, Florida, Washington, and Virginia.

After Jerry retired from the Navy, they returned to Cleveland and built their dream house, all by themselves. DeEtta loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed making special birthday cakes for each of her children, serving as a Cub Scout den mother, and teaching Sunday School at the Christian Church. She also loved flowers, gardening, painting, crafting, and a good cry. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

DeEtta is survived by son Alan Snyder and wife Brittany; son Geoffrey Snyder; son Brian Snyder and wife Jory; daughter Amy Sowards and husband Jason; sisters Delores Dobson and Dadreon Ritchie; grandchildren Nicole and Evan Sowards, William and Zachary Snyder, and Faith and Carson Snyder; along with numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers Calvin Donald, Ray, Doyle, and Dwight; and sisters Dorothy, Doris, and Della.

A graveside service for family will be held at the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, where DeEtta will be interred with her husband, Jerry.
