Darrell Harp

Darrell "Sonny" Harp, age 81, of Coweta, Oklahoma departed this life on Monday, April 19, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 13, 1928 in Coweta, Oklahoma to Boyd and Velma (Winton) Harp. Sonny was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather to his family. He received his education in Porter, Oklahoma and graduated from high school in 1947. Sonny joined the United States Army on February 24, 1955 and was honorably discharged on December 27, 1956. He and Jannette Skinner were united in marriage on December 14, 1957 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sonny worked in the maintenance department at Dresser Rand for 18 years until his retirement in 1991. He also worked as a drill press operator for National Tank for 11 years. Sonny attended the Towne & Country Christian Church in Coweta. His hobbies included gardening, farming, cattle, and fishing. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Sonny is lovingly survived by his wife of 52 years, Jannette of the home; his two sons, Dewayne Harp and his wife, Melanie, of Coweta, Oklahoma and Dewight Harp and his wife, Debbie, of Porter, Oklahoma; his daughter, Denise Harp of the home; his sister, Pat Friend of Porter, Oklahoma; his three grandsons, Clayton Harp, Michael Harp, and Eric Harp; and several nieces and nephews. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents. A graveside service for Sonny will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010 at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, Oklahoma with Chaplain David Taylor officiating.
