Daniel Benton Rector, known affectionately as Dan to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 14, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK at the age of 88. He was born on December 19, 1935, in Tullahassee, OK to Theodore “Ted” and Lena (Boon) Rector. Dan's life was marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his passions.
Dan is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 65 years, Betty Rector, of their home in Coweta, OK. His legacy continues through his son, Jeffery Rector and wife Robin of Broken Arrow, OK; his cherished grandchildren, Miranda Wooton (Chance) of Covington, LA, and Aubrey Rector (John Greco) of New Orleans, LA; and his adored great-grandchildren, Violet and Willow Wooton. Dan's memory is also honored by his brothers, Paul Rector (Shirley) of Porter, OK, and David Rector (Donna) of Coweta, OK; his sister, Cathy Parent (Robert) of Texas; and his loving nephews and nieces, Michael Rector, Brandon Rector, Sarah Rector, Doug Rector, Rex Rector, Russell Walker, Rodney Walker, and Debbie Walker.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore "Ted" and Lena Rector; his brothers, Richard and Donald Rector; his sister, Dorothy Walker; and his nephew, Robert Walker.
Dan's early years were spent in the town of Coweta, where he attended school and graduated from Coweta High School in 1955. His education laid the groundwork for a successful career. Dan dedicated many years of service to Tesco Corporation and Lockheed Martin, where he excelled as a Manufacturing Foreman Supervisor until his retirement in 2001.
A proud veteran, Dan was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country with honor and distinction. His time in the military instilled in him values of discipline and commitment that he carried throughout his life.
On August 11, 1959, Dan married the love of his life, Elizabeth Mae "Betty" Nelson, in Haskell, OK. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared interests. Dan's hobbies included fishing and hunting, collecting guns and knives, watching old westerns, and tinkering in his garage. These simple pleasures brought him immense joy and provided countless stories to share with his family and friends.
Dan's journey on earth may have concluded, but his spirit, love, and memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His was a life well-lived, full of purpose, love, and unwavering dedication to the things that mattered most. Dan will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Visitation for Dan will be held from 12:00 - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK, with the family present to greet friends and loved ones from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Services celebrating Dan's life will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK. Martin Perryman will officiate the ceremony. Dan will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK, with military honors.
