Daniel L. Gilbert

Daniel L. "Danny" Gilbert, age 60, long time resident of Coweta, passed away Sunday morning, June 10, 2012 at St. John Medical Center in Broken Arrow, OK. Danny was born on December 5, 1951 in Coweta, OK and was the son of Leroy and Millie Marie (Stiles) Gilbert. Danny was a 1970 graduate of Coweta High School. He then went on to college and received a Master's Degree in English Education. Danny was united in marriage to Gladys Keel on July 30, 1971 in Broken Arrow, OK. Danny was an English teacher at Muskogee High School for the past 13 years. He has also worked hanging drywall and as a butcher at Keel's Slaughter House. Danny was a member of the National Education Association and the National Rifle Association. Danny is also a member of Clearview Baptist Church. Danny enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing leather work. Danny is lovingly survived by his wife of nearly 41 years, Gladys Gilbert of the home; his daughter, Wynona Thornton and husband, Gregg, of Coweta; his son, Lowell Gilbert of Coweta; his two brothers, Faron Gilbert of Coweta and David Gilbert and wife, Debbie, of Coweta; his two sisters, Deloris Baker of Dewar, OK and Karen Jones and husband, Kevin, of Cookson, OK; six grandchildren, Harley Thornton, Kylie Gilbert, Haley Thornton, Haran Thornton, Hayden Thornton and Hattie Mae Thornton; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Danny was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Haven. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, June 11, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Funeral services for Danny are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Clearview Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK with Pastor Larry McDonald and Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery. Pallbearers are Justin Gilbert, Brian Gilbert, Gilbert Horne, Loren Jamison, David Nold, Kevin Jones, Scott Eaton and Clayton "Big Dog" Blevins. Honorary Pallbearers are the Clearview Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Class. The family of Danny Gilbert entrusted his care and services to Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home, 210 S.
