Dallas Henry Mathews, age 89, resident of Coweta went to be with his Lord Savior on Tuesday morning, June 1, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dallas was born on May 18, 1932 in Stonebluff, Oklahoma and was the son of Henry and Goldie (Foutch) Mathews. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He enlisted in the Army on September 1, 1950 and was honorably discharged on June 5, 1952. Dallas married Sue Taylor on August 4, 1953 and she preceded him in death in 2002. He later married Lela Arlene Cole on December 8, 2005. Dallas worked in the oil field and retired from Nelson Electric as a warehouse supervisor. He also was campus security at Haskell Public Schools. Dallas enjoyed music, fishing, camping, teaching people to ski, traveling, going to the casino, and entertaining people.
Dallas is survived by his wife, Arlene Mathews of the home in Coweta, Oklahoma; his daughter, LaDonna Collins and husband David of Haskell, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, John Collins, Mike Collins and wife Meghan, Matt Collins, Jeremy Mathews and wife Tracy, and Dana Andrews and husband Duane; fourteen great grandchildren, Tristin, Conley, Makayla, Paisley, Cash, Caleigh, Colby, DeJay, Brody, Jaxon, Brynlee, Ashley, Nathan, and Connor; one sister, Lorene Choate and husband Kenneth of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his step-children, Linda Sullivan and husband Dennis of Coweta, Oklahoma and Carla Long and husband Leslie of Coweta, Oklahoma; nine step-grandchildren, Angie Foster and husband Leon, Shelley Foster and husband Brock, Dwight Long and wife Jackie, Jerel Long, Elaina Brown, Andrea King and husband Steven, Dana Easley, Stephanie Easley, and David Easley II; fourteen step-great grandchildren, MaKayla, Bethany, Olivia, Hanna, Michael, Anthony, Jerelyn, Lynzee, Logan, Abel, Carson, Chance, Destiny, and Cody; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Dallas was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue F. Mathews; his parents, Henry and Goldie Mathews; one son, Jerry “Jug” Mathews; three brothers, twin Denton Mathews, Kenneth Mathews and Raymond Mathews; and his step-son, David Easley.
A memorial service celebrating Dallas’s life will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, Oklahoma with Pastor Donald Hogue, Jr. officiating. Dallas will be laid to rest at Haskell Cemetery in Haskell, Oklahoma.
