Dale Johnson, longtime Coweta resident, passed from this life on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Nathan and Bessie (Isbell) Johnson in Cromwell, OK. Dale was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather to his family. He attended school in the Coweta school system and graduated from Coweta High School in 1942. Dale was drafted in the United States Armed Forces on February 11, 1943. He was on the front line in World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a combat infantryman. Dale received many medals including the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on November 7, 1945. Dale and Lois Eades were united in marriage on November 20, 1950 in Madisonville, KY. They moved to Coweta in 1953. Dale was self employed as a heavy equipment operator and house mover. He also worked in the oil field. Dale was a member of First Baptist Church and American Legion Post #226. His hobbies included reading, going to Sharon Kay's Restaurant to visit with his friends, watching the Atlanta Braves play baseball, and spending time with his family. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. Dale is lovingly survived by his wife, Lois, of the home; one son, Lee Johnson and his wife, Robette, of Coweta, OK; one daughter, Lesa Knak and her husband, Duane, of Coweta, OK; one brother, Russell Johnson and his wife, Beth, of Coweta, OK; one sister, Darce Maree of Bryan, TX; three grandchildren, Ben Johnson, Krissi Shahan, and Jennifer Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Rev. David Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Carl Riley, Andy Jones, Jay Potter, Dale Dobbins, James Murray, Robert Dill, Herb Sarty, Frank Baucom, Ernie Bindrum, and Sharon Bindrum.
