Cornelius Brown

January 1, 1941 — May 25, 2014

On December 11, 1941, a bundle of joy was born to Mr. Willie A. Brown and Mrs. Ether L. Brown in Haskell, Oklahoma. The name chosen for him was Cornelius Edward Brown. He was the tenth child of thirteen children. Six brothers and sisters precede him in death also, both of his parents. At an early age, Cornelius was baptized by Rev. Jackson Pouncil and Deacon Foster Speed. He enjoyed bragging about being baptized in the Haskell Lake. Cornelius grew up in a loving family and did the normal things children do. He attended the former Booker T. Washington High School, graduating with the class of 1959 at the age of 16 years old. After graduation, he traveled to San Francisco, California with his brother. While in California, he united in holy matrimony with Marsha Grayson in 1962. To this union a son, Alan was born. Cornelius had several occupations in California. He worked for United Airlines and was the owner of his own Mobil Service Station. He was very proud to own his own business. He was also a mechanic. Cornelius eventually moved back to Oklahoma. His jobs here included, an over the road truck driver and other odd jobs. He worked until his health would not permit him to and he retired on disability. Cornelius had lots of friends and was loved by many others. His pet name was "Pop's" which he honored and cherished. Cornelius is also the father of another son and two daughters. Those left to lament his passing are, his sons, Alan Brown (Stephany) and Alvin Brown; his daughters, Terasina Woods (Michael) and Stontay (Zachary); two sisters, Betty Rivers of California, Jeanetta Hollis (Sylvester) of Haskell, Oklahoma; brother, Kenneth Brown (Ruby); five grandsons; seven granddaughters; ten great grandchildren; special friend, Sherree Denney; nephews, nieces, lots of cousins and a host of friends from Oklahoma and California. A memorial service for Cornelius "Pop's" Brown will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 6, 2014 at Eastside First Baptist Church in Haskell, OK with Rev. Larry Pouncil officiating.
