Chester "Sarge" Joseph Gariss passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa. He was 68 years old. Chester was born on April 28, 1939 in Tecumseh, Nebraska to Chester and Dixie Evelyn (Waters) Gariss. He received his education in the Enid, Oklahoma school system and graduated from Enid High School in 1957. He joined the United States Marine Corps on August 23, 1957 and was honorably discharged on August 22, 1963. Sarge and Sarah Cummings were united in married on February 18, 1961 in Dennison, Texas. Chester worked as a truck driver for Coweta Trucking Company until his retirement in 1998. He also worked for Mike Badley Wrecker Service. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Enid, OK, the National Hot Rod Association, and the International Hot Rod Association. His hobbies included racing and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Sarah of the home; four sons, Keith Gariss of Tulsa, Kevin Gariss of Coweta, Kenny Gariss and his wife, Kristi of Coweta, and Kurt Gariss and his wife, Stacy, of Tulsa; fourteen grandchildren, one niece, and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta with Reverend Darrin McKnight of Garnett Road Baptist Church officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home.
