Charles Travis Carter, age 101, lifelong Coweta resident passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, August 20, 2015 at Coweta Manor Nursing Home. Travis was born on October 26, 1913 to Charles Leslie and Bessie Mable (Travis) Carter. He married Altha M. (Townsley) Carter on November 30, 1934. Travis worked at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft as a Leadman for over 20 years until he retired in 1972. After retiring, he worked on the farm. Travis was a devoted and faithful member of Shahan Free Will Baptist Church in Coweta where he served as a Deacon for many years. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard and volunteering at the church. Travis was preceded in death by his wife in 1997, Altha M. Carter, his parents, Charles Leslie and Bessie Mable Carter, 1 son, James Bryan Carter and 1 sister, Gwendolyn Claxton. Travis is lovingly survived by 1 daughter, Charlotte Lindsey of Coweta, OK; 4 grandchildren, Wade Carter, Carol Lindsey-Mize, Sheldon Lindsey and Bryan Carter; 5 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Viewing for Travis will be from 4-6 PM on Saturday, August 22, 2015 and from 4-6 PM on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral services celebrating the life of Travis will be at 10 AM on Monday, August 24, 2015 at Shahan Free Will Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. Lynn Moss officiating. Burial will follow in Shahan Cemetery. Pallbearers are Sheldon Lindsey, Wade Carter, Carol Lindsey-Mize, Merritt Mize, JP Carter and Bryan Carter.
