Cecil Burl Stacy, a man known for his friendly demeanor, adventurous spirit, and courageous heart, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in Tulsa, OK at the age of 84. He was born to parents, John and Ethel Stacy, on September 1, 1940, in Pumpkin Hollow, OK. Cecil's journey through life was marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a passion for the great outdoors.
Cecil's early years were spent attending schools in Cherokee and Wagoner counties. He graduated from the eighth grade in Proctor, OK, after which he attended Coweta High School. Cecil's strong work ethic was evident from an early age, guiding him as he embarked on a career that began with finishing sheetrock and later found him dedicating 32 years to Facet Quantec as a skilled steel worker, operating rolls and shears with precision and care.
In 1966, Cecil's life took a turn when he was drafted into the United States Army. He served his nation with honor and valor during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1968.
Upon returning to civilian life, Cecil found his greatest joy in the companionship of his beloved wife, Deanna Fay (Ward) Stacy. The couple married on August 31, 1968. Cecil's love for Deanna was unwavering, and her passing after 41 years of marriage left a void that he carried with the support of his loving family.
Cecil's zest for life was contagious, and his interests were as wide-ranging as his personality. He was an avid hunter, relishing the quiet anticipation of the hunt. His passion for horses was evident to all who knew him, as he proudly ran his horses, Cecil Mr. Handy and Mighty Face, at Claremore Downs and Blue Ribbon Downs. The thrill of the race and the bond with his horses brought him immense joy.
Above all, Cecil cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Each moment with them was treasured, as he imparted wisdom, shared stories, and created memories that would last a lifetime. His presence at family gatherings was a source of warmth and comfort, and his legacy will live on through the stories passed down to his seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Cecil is survived by his son, Johnny Stacy of Nowata, OK, and his daughter, Alana Owens and her husband Phillip, also of Nowata, OK. He leaves behind his brothers, Vernon Stacy of Nowata, OK, JB Stacy and Norma Peace of Phoenix, AZ, and his brother-in-law, Dennis Ward of Coweta, OK. His life and memory will also be cherished by numerous nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Cecil.
Preceding Cecil in death were his loving wife, Deanna Fay (Ward) Stacy, his parents, John and Ethel Stacy, and several siblings: Carl Stacy, Freddy Stacy, Paskel Stacy, James Stacy, Vivian Peace, Irene Downs, Wanda Stacy, Lecil Stacy, Effie Stacy, and Rachel Stacy.
