Carolyn Joyce Friend, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, in Tulsa, OK, at the age of 73. She was born on April 13, 1951, in Wheaton, Missouri. Carolyn's life was a testament to the enduring strength of familial bonds and the simple joys that created a life well-lived.
Carolyn moved with her family to Tulsa, Oklahoma during her childhood and attended East Central High School. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to her work as a cashier in various grocery and retail stores. Her warm smile and friendly demeanor made her a favorite among customers and colleagues alike.
Carolyn's heart was always with her family, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her loyal spouse, Barry Wayne Newberry, her loving sons, Clayton Lee Jackson and his wife Jamie, Jeffery Wayne Friend, and Cody Eugene Friend and his wife Julia. Her spirit will forever be woven into the lives of her adored grandchildren: Nikki Jackson, Brittney Shipley, Charlotte Davis, Dylan Jackson, Blair Friend, Damien Friend, Austyn Friend, Willow Friend, Lillyanna Friend, and Lincoln Friend. Her gentle guidance and unconditional love will also live on through her siblings, Leota Faye Coleman and her husband Leo, and brothers Donnie Lee Ellis and David Wayne Ellis, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews who held her dear.
Preceding her in death are her father, Melton Lee Ellis, her mother, Naoma Elizabeth (Bruce) Ellis, her sister, Donna Phillips, her grandson, Gage Friend, and her beloved fur baby companion, Misty.
A woman of many passions, Carolyn found joy in life's simple pleasures. She was an avid fan of crime and mystery TV programs, with "NCIS" and "Bones" among her favorites, as well as the long-running soap opera "The Young and The Restless." Her love for unicorns, dreamcatchers, the color red, roses, and the scent of TABU perfume reflected her whimsical and vibrant spirit. Carolyn's favorite beverage was Pepsi, and she could often be found enjoying a can while engaging in her favorite pastime, playing Bingo. Carolyn loved her chihuahuas, Yoda and Misty and she missed them dearly when they were gone.
Described by those who knew her as loving, selfless, and kind, Carolyn's legacy is one of compassion and generosity. Her ability to make others feel loved and valued was her greatest gift, and it shone brightly in every aspect of her life. Carolyn's home was filled with love and laughter and her favorite moments were always those spent surrounded by her family, especially her children and grandchildren, who brought immense joy and purpose to her life.
A memorial service celebrating Carolyn’s life will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK.
