Carol Joyce Sims, known affectionately as Joyce to her friends and family, passed away peacefully in Coweta, OK, on Saturday afternoon, January 20, 2024, at the age of 81 years. She was born on November 3, 1942, in Cedar Vale, KS to Thomas Sylvester Powell and Joy Lee (Downen) Jennings.
Joyce was a dedicated worker, spending many years in the shoe manufacturing industry. Beyond her professional life, Joyce was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans auxiliary, a testament to her commitment to service and community. Her interests were diverse and heartfelt; she had a special place in her heart for her beloved cat, Alex, and she found joy and tranquility in cross-stitching, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her meticulous nature.
She is survived by her stepchildren, Vicky Daniels, William Sims, and Ricky Sims; her stepsister, Glenda Tate; and a loving extended family of step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Sylvester Powell and Joy Lee Jennings, her devoted husband, William "Bill" E. Sims, her brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Doris Powell, and her stepsister, Marilyn Hawkins.
A graveside service to honor the life and legacy of Joyce will be held at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK.
