Byroun "Laverne" Williams

April 25, 1945 — July 7, 2024

Coweta

Byroun Laverne Williams, known affectionately as Laverne, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on April 25, 1945, in Coweta, Oklahoma to parents Olaf and Leota Williams. He grew up as the oldest of 8 children working on the family farm and ranch in Porter, Oklahoma. He was a graduate of Coweta High School and worked 25 years for Baker Oil Tools as a machinist and saw operator.  Laverne's life was a testament to his dedication to his family, his faith, and his community. A beloved figure known for his infectious laughter and spirited character, Laverne’s legacy is one of love, devotion, and joy.

Laverne was blessed with a beautiful and enduring love story, having married his soulmate, Viola "Marie" Williams, on August 11, 1967, in Coweta. Their union was marked by deep affection and mutual respect, and together they navigated life's journey for 56 wonderful years. Laverne's love for Marie was the cornerstone of his life, and his devotion never wavered.

He was a proud father to Gary Williams and his wife Karen, and to Robert Williams, all of Coweta, Laverne's family was his pride and joy. He was the blessed grandfather to Justin Williams and his wife Barrett, Mellisa Williams, and Aaron Rainey. The birth of his great-grandson Luke Maverick Williams added another layer of happiness to his rich life, in addition to his siblings; Sandy Martin of Coweta, Linda Miller of Tulsa, Kathy Williams of Coweta, Nancy Voyles and husband Jim of Wagoner, Nita Winters and husband Gary of Tulsa, Olaf “Cutty” Williams and wife Kimberly of Wagoner, and Susan Yocham of Coweta.

Laverne's parents, Leota and Olaf Williams, and his brother Larry (Bimbo) Williams, preceded him in death.

A man of deep faith, Laverne was an active member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church, where his passion for worship and fellowship was evident to all. Even outside the church walls, Laverne's love for the outdoors - whether hunting or fishing alongside his family - was matched only by his joyful spirit. Affectionately nicknamed "Rooster" for his ability to make lifelike animal noises, his unique talents were celebrated at local events, including Broken Arrow Rooster Days, and even featured on the news.

Laverne's departure leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him, but his bright legacy will continue to inspire and uplift. His laughter, his teasing, and his unwavering love will be deeply missed.
