Buck Holmes

Buck Holmes, age 79, long-time resident of Coweta passed away peacefully Friday morning, January 25, 2013 at his home in Coweta, OK. Buck was born on October 17, 1933 in Broken Arrow, OK and was the son of William and Hazel (Bailey) Holmes. Buck married the former Miss Joyce Lea Denton on December 22, 1952 in Coweta, OK. Buck worked for Bailey Drilling as an oil field driller for 62 years. He was also a farmer and rancher for most of his life. Buck was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church in Broken Arrow. Buck enjoyed hunting, raising cattle, chickens and horses, and he loved spending time with his family. He will be missed as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. Buck is lovingly survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Holmes of the home; his 2 daughters, Sherry Voyles and husband, Gary, of Wagoner, OK and Debbie Voyles and husband, Rocky, of Rogers, AR; his 2 sons, Rick Holmes and wife, Paula, of Sand Springs, OK and Donnie Holmes of Coweta, OK; his 5 brothers, Onis Holmes and wife, Velma, of Indiana, Billie Holmes and wife, Imogene, of Coweta, OK, Harvey Holmes and wife, Pam of Porter, OK, Dennis Holmes and wife, Linda, of Porter, OK and Raymond Holmes and wife, Karen, of Porter, OK; his sister, Margie Satterfield and husband, Norman, of Coweta, OK; 9 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Buck was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Daisey Hewitt and 1 great granddaughter, Rhylynne Jean Holmes. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday evening, January 28, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services for Buck are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. James Stone, Jr. and Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Garrett Voyles, Darrel Voyles, Darren Voyles, Darrek Voyles, Chris Holmes, Matt Holmes and William Holmes.
