Bob G. Hurst

Bob G. Hurst, 85 year old resident of Coweta, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, Nov. 21, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 28, 1929 to Harvey and Sylvia (Mayberry) Hurst in Kellyville, OK. Bob was a 1948 graduate of Oktaha High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1950 and received an honorable discharge in 1952. He and Geneva Thomas were married on May 16, 1953 in Tulsa, OK. Bob worked as a Firefighter at Tulsa Fire Department for 20 years and retired in 1976. He was a member of New Bethel Assembly of God in Broken Arrow. He enjoyed horses, going to horse sales and rodeos, bulldogging and gardening. Bob was a loving, caring, and devoted family man who greatly loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and the rest of his family. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Sylvia Hurst, 1 son, Steve Hurst, 1 sister, Valeta Jackson and 1 grandson, Bobby Hurst. Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geneva Hurst of the home; 4 daughters, Debbie Jackson and husband, Steve, of Coweta, OK, Donna Young of Coweta, OK, Cheryl Sherry and husband, Joe, of Broken Arrow, OK and Tracy Swarer and husband, Jimmy, of Broken Arrow, OK; 1 son, Matt Hurst of Coweta, OK; 7 grandchildren, Devin Hurst, Justin Sherry, Dillon Sherry, Carrie Gray and husband, Josh, Lindsey Barnett and husband, Wes, Josh Swarer and wife, Karen and Jacob Swarer; 1 great grandchild, Kasen Gray; 5 sisters, Bonnie Hickey of Catoosa, OK, Carol Richardson of Streetman, TX, Peggy Sisco of Nowata, OK, Judy Hurst of Muskogee, OK and Vickie Sexton of Muskogee, OK; 4 brothers, Wayne Hurst of Colcord, OK, Jerry Hurst of Kellyville, OK, Bruce Hurst of Kellyville, OK and Harold Hurst of Kellyville, OK; Brittany Rogers, Haley McElroy and Yolanda Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 12 PM - 6 PM on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home with the family greeting friends from 2 PM - 4 PM. Funeral services celebrating the life of Bob will be at 2 PM on Monday, Nov. 24, 2014 at New Bethel Assembly of God in Broken Arrow, OK with Rev. Ed Rutherford and Pastor Dan Haase officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Charles Hurst, Kraig Withers, Will Kilgore, Allen Messick, Robert Harris, Rick Krumsiek and Kirby Brumble. Honorary Pallbearers are Harold Peck, James Murray, Wesley Hopping, Johnny Robinson, Bill Coday and Doug Collins.
