Betty Shieldnight

Betty Jean Shieldnight, age 89, lifelong resident of Coweta, a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday morning, January 30, 2013 at her home in Coweta, OK. Betty was born on August 5, 1923 in Porter, OK and was the daughter of Hugh and Mayme (Boyd) Darnell. Betty was a 1940 graduate of Porter High School. Betty married her lifelong love, Lee Shieldnight on May 11, 1941 in Bixby, OK. Betty and Lee were married for 71 years. Betty worked as a bank teller for around 15 years. Betty was a member of the First Christian Church. Betty enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping and spending time with her family. Betty is lovingly survived by her husband of 71 years, Lee Shieldnight of the home; her son, Mike Shieldnight and wife, Connie, of Broken Arrow, OK; her two daughters, Judy Meehan and husband, Buck, of Coweta, OK and Vicki Dixon and husband, Wayne, of Allen, TX; two sisters, Peggy White of Sand Springs, OK and Sarah McCoy of Bella Vista, AR; one brother, Dale Darnell of Muskogee, OK; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Mayme Darnell, one son, Don Gene Shieldnight, two sisters and one brother. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, February 1, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services for Betty are scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Coweta, OK with Pastor Rusty Fuller, Pastor Allan Swinson, Pastor Mark Shieldnight and Pastor Tim Dotson officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Kurt Shieldnight, Lance Shieldnight, Wade Meehan, J.R. Dixon, Curtis Simpson and Todd Simpson.
