Bernard Roy Cooper, also known to many as “Bernie”, age 69, resident of Broken Arrow went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday afternoon, May 13, 2021 at Emerald Care Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Bernie was born on November 10, 1951 in Ponca City, Oklahoma and was the son of Roy Pendleton Cooper and Elma Loretta (Hamblin) Shepherd.  He was a 1970 graduate of Shawnee High School.  Bernie received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering with a minor in Engineering from Kennedy West University.  He had a license in extra class amateur radio.  Bernie married the love of his life, Lana Jean Luckett on May 18, 1972 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  He was a member of the Coweta Assembly in Coweta, Oklahoma.  Bernie worked for Harris Computer Systems, Inc. in Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1981-1983 as a Sr. Field Service Engineer and retired after working for 27 years at Grand River Dam Authority in Pryor, Oklahoma as a Meter Department Superintendent from 1983-2009.  He also worked and volunteered for several law enforcement agencies including Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy, Broken Arrow Police Department Reserves, and Mayes County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy.  Bernie’s ancestral history was Principle Chief-Pellisipi Chickamauguan Band Oklahoma.  He was involved any many societies including Military Order of the Stars and Bars - Brigadier General Eppa Hunton Chapter - Past Commander, Sons of Confederate of Veterans - Col. Daniel McIntosh Camp 3 term past Commander, and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War - Sgt. Jacob Overturf Camp 3 term and Current Commander.  He enjoyed genealogy, reading, history, traveling, and Civil War re-enactments.  Bernie was always kind to all that he encountered and had a smile and laughter that would bring joy to all.  He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Lana Cooper of the home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his daughter, Lori Cooper of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one nephew, Bobby Roselius; and numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Pendleton Cooper and Elma Loretta Shepherd; one sister, Betty Jean Roselius and husband Jack; and three nephews, Larry “Rooster” Roselius, Charles “Mouse” Roselius, and Connie “Kisses” Roselius.

A memorial service celebrating Bernie’s life will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Coweta Assembly in Coweta, Oklahoma with Pastor Steve Lee officiating.
