Avery Lee Burgess, age 64, resident of Coweta, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Hillcrest Hospital South in Tulsa, OK. He was born on December 9, 1959, in Tulsa, OK to Abe and Edna Faye (Snelson) Burgess.
Avery attended Coweta Public Schools. In 1989, he furthered his education at Northeastern Oklahoma College. Avery was a skilled auto mechanic, a trade he practiced with dedication and pride for most of his life. His work was not just a job but a craft he honed with care and precision.
Family was the cornerstone of Avery's life. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Audra Burgess-Perteet and her husband John of McAlester, OK, and Morgan Reese and her husband Wes of Coweta, OK; his granddaughter, Roxanne Burgess-Perteet; his brothers, Vic Burgess of Tulsa, OK, and Ross Burgess and his wife Gina of Coweta, OK; his half-sister, Lori Burgess; his half-brother, Chebon Burgess; and numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family.
Avery was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Edna Faye Burgess, his grandparents, Richard and Clema Snelson, and his nephew, Richard Burgess.
An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Avery found freedom on the open road. His love for riding was matched by his skill in martial arts, where he achieved the rank of black belt in karate. Avery's interests were diverse; he was a gun enthusiast, a history buff, and a devoted fan of OU football. His passion for life shone brightly during the holidays, especially the 4th of July, which he celebrated with great fervor.
Avery's love for his family was unparalleled. He relished in cooking family meals on the smoker, making each holiday memorable, particularly Christmas, which he made magical for his daughters every year. He was deeply engaged in his daughters' interests and ensured they knew their Seminole heritage. His commitment to family and community extended to his involvement with the Elks Lodge in Broken Arrow, OK, where he shared his spirit of service and camaraderie.
Though Avery has left this earthly realm, his memory will be cherished by all who knew him. He touched many lives with his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering support. Avery's story will be told with love and admiration, and his legacy will endure through the lives of his family and friends.
