August 11, 2011 Annabel Hess Beall was born June 22, 1913 in Chanute, KS to Grace Ethel and Albert Wesley Hess. She passed away peacefully August 14, 2010 at her home in Broken Arrow, OK. Annabel moved to Bartlesville, OK with her family in 1926 when she was 13 years old. She graduated from College High School in Bartlesville in 1931. She attended her first year of college at a Girl's School in Mexico, MO and then transferred to Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater, OK. She was a Home Economics major and received her degree in the field of Nutrition. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. It was while she was a student at Oklahoma A&M that she met her future husband, James Arthur Beall. He was a Professor in the School of Agriculture and the teacher of her Meats class. They were married upon her graduation in 1936. They lived in Stillwater until 1945 when they bought a ranch east of Bartlesville. She then became a Rancher's wife and supported her husband's interest in raising cattle and breeding horses. The family moved back to Stillwater in 1954, then to Amarillo, TX and finally to a farm south of Broken Arrow in 1961, where Annabel had lived for the past 49 years. Annabel was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother Joseph Hubert Hess; and sister Lucile Hess Owen. She is survived by her five children including two daughters: Frankie Lou Hale and her husband Jerry of Bixby, OK, Jacquelyn Sue Sands and her husband Jeff of Louisville, KY; three sons: James Robert Beall and his wife Sandi of Jefferson, MD, Phillip Arthur Beall and his wife Betty of Edmond, OK and Charles Preston Beall and his wife Freda of Bixby; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Annabel always had a great love for children. Even as a young girl in Bartlesville, she would seek out neighboring children to play with and care for. Later, when her own children arrived, she was active in the Methodist Church Children's Sunday School Departments in Stillwater and Bartlesville. She was also involved in her children's school and scouting activities. After her husband's death in 1968 she returned to Oklahoma State University to take classes in Pre-School Education. She then taught music in private Pre-Schools. The children loved "Miss Annabel" as much as she loved them. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow and often served in the church Nursery. During this time she began to enjoy the opportunities of travel. With her sister Lucile or her sisters-in-law, Sadie Beall or Mildred Hess, or a variety of friends and family she visited much of the U.S. and many foreign countries. It was a joy to her to see so much of the world, and she always returned home with great enthusiasm to tell of her many experiences with people and places. Graveside service: 11AM Tuesday, August 17 at New Home Cemetery in Nash, OK; memorial service and celebration of life: 1PM Wednesday, August 18 at Bixby First United Methodist Church.
