Amos Josiah Cherry, age 31, resident of Coweta, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday afternoon, December 29, 2021. Amos was born on August 1, 1990, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Curtis Glenn and Rebecca Jane (Shellenbarger) Cherry. He was a 2009 graduate of Coweta High School where he played football and wrestled. While in high school, Amos was a 4X state placer in wrestling and earned All State recognition in football. Amos earned a full athletic scholarship to East Central University where he was a four-year starter in football. He received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree from Northeastern State University and a minor in kinesiology. He was the Ada High School assistant wrestling coach while attending college at ECU from 2009-2013 and the Jenks High School assistant wrestling coach from 2013 to 2020 and the linebacker coach at Booker T. Washington High School and in 2017 they won state championship. He also worked at Superior Pest Control as a technician and remodeled houses. Amos married Shae Peterson and together they have one son, Brooks Lane Cherry. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, sports, coaching, golf, and playing his guitar, but most of all he loved spending time with his “big son Brooksie”.
Amos is survived by his parents, Curtis and Becky Cherry of Coweta, Oklahoma; his son, Brooks Lane Cherry; his brother, Elijah Cherry and his wife Sarah of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his maternal grandparents, Charles Jerry and wife Artie Shellenbarger of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Loretta “Janie” Asher of Inola, Oklahoma; his nephew, Gunner Cherry; his niece, Rosie Cherry; his uncle and aunt, Jerry and Carrie Shellenbarger; his cousins, Jacob and Alora Shellenbarger; his ex-wife, Shae (Peterson) Cherry; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Amos was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Don and Sharon Cherry.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, Oklahoma. Services celebrating Amos’s life will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at the Coweta Assembly in Coweta, Oklahoma with Rev. Ron Gibson and Rev. Luke Tramel officiating.
