Alice Jane Todd, known affectionately as Jane, entered into the Gates of Heaven on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years. Jane was born on June 23, 1938, in Chelsea, Oklahoma to Jesse Clarence and Velma Watt (Short) Clanton. Jane was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew her.
Jane was a proud graduate of Chelsea High School, class of 1956. She made her start working for the Green Parrot Café, the Dairy King, and Super H Grocery Store. She dedicated her professional life to serving her community, as City Clerk at the City of Coweta, and at Rural Water District 5. She continued her career at Carriage Crossing Retirement Center until her well-deserved retirement. Jane's work ethic and commitment to her community were truly admirable.
Jane was a longtime resident of Coweta, Oklahoma, where she attended the CrossPoint Baptist Church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found great joy in attending church services. Jane had a zest for life that was infectious. She loved listening to bluegrass music, camping, and playing Bunco. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
In May 1956, Jane married Marvin Dale Harrell, and they were blessed with four children, Dala, Todd, Marla, and Jo. In 1995, she found love again and married Joe Todd. Jane's love for her family was boundless, and she was the heart and soul of many family gatherings.
Jane is survived by her four children, Dala Steelmon and husband Marvin of Coweta, Oklahoma, Todd Harrell of Coweta, Oklahoma, Marla Stephens and husband John of Coweta, Oklahoma, and Jo Sillyman and husband Jay of North Zulch, Texas. She was a proud grandmother to Dalynn Steelmon, Witni Sisco and husband JW, and Kane Sillyman, and a doting great-grandmother to Elliet Holmes, Evan Holmes, Braylen Sisco, Brazen Sisco, and Tinleigh Sisco. Jane is also survived by her brother, Johnnie Clanton of Copan, Oklahoma, her brother-in-law, Leon Warren of Claremore, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Todd, her parents, Jesse Clarence and Velma Watt Clanton, her sisters, Vergie Fair, Margie Carver, Ruth Carter, and Mary Warren, and her brother, Jimmy Clanton. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, Oklahoma. A memorial service celebrating Jane's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 3, 2023, at CrossPoint Baptist Church in Coweta, Oklahoma, with Pastor Brett Wheeler officiating. Jane will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery, Coweta, Oklahoma.
